A suitable skim

I finally finished Vikram Seth's "A Suitable Boy" -- all 1349 pages of it. Well... I read the first 600 or so pages very carefully, my head spinning with all the characters and predicaments. Then I got mired in the sections about Indian politics and law and put it down. Then Priya told me I could skip over the boring stuff and get back to the family and love parts. Which speeded things up considerably.

Still, I was disappointed. Nothing very exciting happens until page 1185. Some, but not all, of the relationship stuff gets resolved (not, presumably, for lack of space), and the conclusion was unsatisfying. For a book that took me two months to read, I was hoping for a little more.

Next to read: US Magazine -- Grammy Gowns and Parties. Britney's Private Album! How's Jen Coping?
