One year anniversary

I don't usually get sentimental about technology, but it's been a year for me and Gmail, and I think it's getting serious. This is the first, and maybe will be the only, time I can really be considered an "early adopter" of anything -- Les scored me a Gmail account six weeks after they first existed. Just early enough that some people begged me to get them an account, and accounts were being auctioned off online for actual money, goods, services, etc. I was even early enough to get my first name with last initial as an address -- a fact that has yet to impress anyone (but I'm still hopeful).

Gmail is great because the storage is pretty much unlimited, there are no annoying ads (there are some ads, but they are not annoying), the search function is excellent, and mostly because of the conversation threading. It is kind of hard to explain what that is, but it means that the 14 e-mails I've gotten so far about Nicole's bbq on Sunday take up 1 line in my inbox, and not 14.

Happy anniversary to us!

Hola, amigos

"I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya."

These are the words I hope to see whenever I get a new issue of The Onion, because they are inevitably written by my favorite Onion columnist, Jim Anchower.

Which is why my celebrity sighting last night was so exciting. I was at a City Arts & Lectures on-stage interview with the editors of The Onion, and they announced that the guy who writes Jim Anchower was in the audience! Of course I went up to him afterwards and congratulated him on some damn fine work. He was nice and super mellow (of course) and said that even though he doesn't smoke pot anymore, all of the stories in the column (endless car trouble, getting fired from crappy jobs, so-called buddies who drink all your Miller Genuine Draft) are from his younger days. I was in awe.

Ted likes H-Dog Kornfeld, and Kyle is a Jeanketeer, but my heart belongs to Jim.

Ice cream cake

One of my greatest pet peeves is when someone promises you ice cream cake and delivers ice cream pie instead. Ted and Naomi know better! They served ice cream cake at their wedding, and do it again every year on their anniversary.

With all the kids and Maggie the dog around on Sunday, there were a lot of opportunities for mischief. Right, Christopher?
