Cultured out

Mostly by coincidence, over the last nine days I seem to have gone to three operas, two ballets, one program at the Bicycle Film Festival and "Capote." And really, that's enough for now. This week is going to be all about dinner parties, karaoke and catching up with the kids on "The O.C."

Unrelated:

1) It's hard to imagine a movie less appealing to me than the new Keira Knightley "Pride and Prejudice" adaptation. I am a "P and P" purist. The only true "P and P" is the BBC six hours mini-series. Anything else is an abomination.

2) Fleet Week really rubbed me the wrong the way this year. Too loud, too macho. Not fleet enough!

and since Noah said the reason he liked my blog is because I'm not complaining about everything all the time

3) Beth Lisick's "Everybody Into the Pool" is really quite delightful. Sharp, subtle, funny. Check it out (from the library, of course).

Good idea, David.

I'm not really that down, but maybe a bit tired. After falling asleep at 7:30 on Friday night (yes, it is embarassing when your 1 3/4 year-old daughter has to wake you up so you can put her to bed), Emily got us tickets to Rodelinda on Saturday night and even babysat with Rebecca and Brett. Strong (Ritual) coffee kept Naomi and I awake through the opera, which was fabulous. They modernized it with a Mafia theme which I thought was visually interesting but confusing. Does the Mafia have the same procession structure as royalty? Up until midnight(!) means that it is has been a slow start to the week.

Yesterday we peeped a new Indian restaurant (it is really just a young woman serving Indian food within a cafe) on 19th just east of Mission, I think where Baobab #2 should be. It was quite tasty and quite homestyle.

Speaking of tasty and homestyle, I did my first tomato canning last Sunday (haven't tried them yet), and also made my own pickles (B++) and kimchi (C+, not sour or spicy enough). Check back in a few weeks to hear about the tomatoes.
