Night of 1000 Lincolns
I finally got my pictures from Halloween weekend back. Unfortunately, none of them convey how super fun and funny it was to be dressed as Abraham Lincoln in a sea of Abes. The one that comes closest is this one:

Yeah, that's me on the top of the pyramid.
My stovepipe hat is off to Ted S. for both imagining and executing the Lincoln Brigade. We're planning on re-bearding on February 12, if anyone wants in.

A surprise for Naomi
Naomi's birthday is today, but we secretly planned her party for last Sunday. I believe the pictures below confirm both her surprise and delight in seeing 20 of her nearest and dearest jumping out of the corner of her living room with noisemakers.
Happy Birthday Naomi!

Hot to Trot
Yesterday's Turkey Trot was the biggest one ever! Some of the first-timers came from my steak club, Ted's swim club, our parents' golf club, Naomi's mom's group, and Rebecca and Brett's dojo. And many of our regulars have procreated, which brought the numbers up too.
It all went very well but felt a little bittersweet, since it was our co-organizers Doug and Nikki's last SF Trot, at least for now. They are moving to Portland in December and taking all of their gag gifts with them to start a Pacific Northwest TT tradition.
The Turkey Trot is nothing if not predictable, so here is the obligatory annual picture of race shirts from years past.

Cupcakes make people happy
Jenny and I had a Cupcake Club meeting on Saturday morning in preparation for her party. We were a good team -- she made the cupcakes, I made the frosting. In a fit of industry/gluttony, I also frosted the cupcakes and ate all the leftover batter. Luckily I can still fit into my new favorite shirt, given to me by Jenny and modelled below.

Party starters
Everyone knows the secret to a good party is good party-starters. Jenny and Harold had a great party on Saturday, so I guess that reflects well on me, Kyle and Christopher. It might have also had something to do with an excellent DJ, a professional bartender, three kinds of cupcakes and attractive guests (not all of them nursing students, either).

The E.M. that almost wasn't
Last night's E.M. was left for dead after some high-profile cancellations, so I was both surprised and delighted when Harold, who had said he wasn't going, brought it back to life. In Noe Valley, no less! Instead of goldfish and cosmos at The Attic, we had burgers and beers on the front deck at Barney's, wine and cafe creme on the back deck at Le Zinc, and martinis at the bar of Valley Tavern (not pictured: Radhi, Robyn and Sarah). Thanks for saving the E.M. Harold! We owe ya one.

Remember my name
I've been watching Season 1 of "Fame" (the early 80s TV show about the High School for the Performing Arts in New York City), and it's bringing back a lot of memories. Not of all the times I broke into song in English class, or of practicing the cello until my fingers bled, or of seeing an entire cafeteria of students starting a spontaneous, yet synchronized, dance number. My high school experience was not nearly so interesting. But it reminds me of being 11 and watching this show every week with my dad, which is a pretty good memory too.

Rainy days and Mondays
These days I actually hope for bad weather on Mondays, because it means that Mim and Pa will skip the playground and instead bring Isabel to the library near my work for Story Hour. That it only lasts for 30 minutes and there's more songs than stories is immaterial -- it is the perfect rainy day activity for an almost-2-year old and her entourage.
Here she is putting her right foot in for the Hokey Pokey:
And studying the menu at lunch after. She won over the whole wait staff by ordering her own lunch. "Noodle soup! Thank you."

Stars: They're Just Like Us! At least in L.A.
Nic turned me on to Defamer.com, which is an amusingly snarky blog about the entertainment industry. I mostly end up skimming it -- unless there's a feature they call "Hollywood Privacy Watch." Basically it's regular people who live in Los Angeles reporting on the celebrities they see around town: Katie Holmes getting coffee, Adam Brody at a house party, Andre 3000 at the airport, etc. It is mesmerizing -- esp for a SF resident who never sees anyone, anywhere.
If this sounds like your kind of thing (and I think it does) you can peep the latest example here.

Who wears short shorts?
Noah sent me Seasons 1 and 2 of "Reno 911," which almost makes up for the fact that he has been kicking my ass at online Scrabble lately. I mean, bingo-ing on the first move of the game? Only Kyle could be so dastardly. Or Harold. Or, okay, Jenny.

Just ducky
Isabel was a quack quack for Halloween last night! Luckily she doesn't know what candy is yet, so she was more than happy to hand it out to the older kids in the neighborhood.
Pictures from Saturday's Lincoln Brigade are coming...
