The end of an era
Doug is moving to Portland, Oregon this week (wife Nikki and daughter Sydney are already there). Even though we don't see him enough anymore (hey, I didn't tell them to move across the bridge), it's pretty unimaginable not to have the option. Though not technically a Rat Pack founder -- that would be me, Ted, Fred and Hope -- Doug has been a member in good standing and A-list friend for over 10 years. He was at Slackerpalooza in 1996 and co-wrote "Dick T's Favorite Daughter" a year later. He led the "Tour de Alameda" and led us to the Tastee Freeze in Muscatine, Iowa. Doug and Nikki were the ones who introduced me to both White Russians and the infamous Diet Dr. Pepper/Coors Light combo (tastes best when rafting). We've done too many canoeing trips, fun runs and BBQs to count.
Saturday night Ted, Naomi, Isabel, Rick, Michelle, Kelsa and I had a farewell dinner for Doug at his old haunt, Dino's Pizza on Fillmore. It's going to be a lot harder to plan shenanigans, but I think there will be another BBQ Sauce Tasting Contest or, god forbid, Chris Elliott Appreciation Night in our future.

Well put, ET, it is the end of an era. I am happy for their change but it is tremendously sad that Doug and Nikki and Sydney have moved.
That said, Emily- what is a BBQ sauce tasting contest? To see who the best taster of BBQ sauce is?
