Team Shane

Team Shane.jpg

On Saturday David G. turned his apartment into an Irish bar for the night. In other words, the whiskey was flowing, and trivia was the order of the day. I teamed up with Jon and Molly under the name Team Shane (named after our favorite "L Word" character), and we were smoking hot the first round or two. I knew we would win when this guy (above right) who came late asked to join our team... and he introduced himself as Ivan (the name of one of our other favorite "L Word" characters! Well, okay, they're all our favorite.) With Ivan in our pocket we sailed to victory (by .5 point), drank our prize (champagne) and proceeded to eat birthday cake and dance.

After the contest Hal and I had a very interesting conversation with Judith, who is a minor internet celebrity! She lost her camera in Hawaii and her struggles with the people who found it, and are now holding it hostage, have been something of a web phenom. Well, I didn't know about it until I met her, but Hal knew, and if you Google "lost camera" you get not just her blog but news articles and posts from other people's blogs about it. I hope she gets her camera back, but really I was just excited to meet the center of a controversy, even if I didn't know about it until she told me.

Let it snowshoe

Let it snowshoe.jpg

Chris, Jodie, Keith, Leah, Michael, Pam, Priya, Suzanne, Ted S. and I spent the 3-day weekend at Ted's cabin in the mountains. The best part was the long hike we did at Alpine Lake (photo above).

Just kidding! That was really fun, but also cold and tiring. Of course the real best part was all the rest of the time, sitting around the wood-burning fireplace reading books, playing card games and drinking wine.

Gaviniversary

Last night was not just a Steak Club night, we were also celebrating the City Hall marriages, 2 years ago to the day, of James & John and Hunter & Daniel. There were multiple toasts made to Mayor Gavin Newsom, Daniel's cute new hat and this beautiful warm weather --may it last forever.

Mad (Dog) Trivia Skillz

100_2194.jpg

Last night David G., under the pretense of doing research for his upcoming party, convened the above group for Trivia Night at Mad Dog in the Fog. None of us were trivia geniuses, but all had our specialties. Hal rocked European capitals, Jodie's expertise ranged from Olympic track & field to board games, Michael dominated weather systems and David saved us on the music round. You may not be surprised that my most valuable contributions came in the arenas of celebrity marriages and bad 80s TV shows.

Still, we were shocked to hear that we did well enough to come in second place! Unfortunately, we weren't able to use the prize (a free pitcher of beer), as it was 11:00 pm. Luckily we were able to donate it to a worthy cause: younger, cooler people who can drink all night, even on a Tuesday.

CLWBE

When Ted S. and I get together, we always try to do it at CLWBE, aka the Cutest Little Wine Bar Ever, aka Hotel Biron on Rose Street. No one appreciates a tasteful atmosphere, a tasty glass of wine or a tasteless joke more than Ted. Our latest visit was on Tuesday evening. I don't remember which story I was telling when Ted said to me "You ought to have a blog." Hey, done and done.

Speaking of blogs, mine is a year old.

Speaking of Ted, he is gathering the troops again on Lincoln's Birthday (Sunday, 2-12) at El Rio. I encourage anyone reading this to put on a stovepipe hat and come out -- it will be historical. Details here.
