Humiliation at 6300 feet
So I went to Tahoe this weekend with 1 friend and 10 strangers (who were, luckily, very friendly). After a long Saturday of snowboarding -- or in my case, reading -- we made a big dinner and settled in front of the TV to play "Karaoke Revolution" on Xbox. Basically, you pick a song and sing it, and are scored by the computer on how accurate your timing and pitch are. With all of my experience on the karaoke stage I thought I'd be a ringer for sure, and did a bunch of trash talking to try to intimidate my competition. Perhaps you can imagine how unhappily surprised I was to come in dead last! The judges hated my version of "Billie Jean." Really, even a girl who was ultimately booed off the stage had a higher score than I did.
Does this story have a happy ending? No, it does not.

35th Birthday
I don't have a lot to say about my birthday party last weekend, except it was really fun -- and I'm glad it's over. Gold-star guests: Jenny the photographer, Ted the cake doctor, Hal the cream puff doctor and 'Deep the DJ.

Men in Tights
Sara and I saw "Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake" at the Orpheum last night. It is a completely re-imagined production of the Tchaikovsky ballet, and all of the swans are male. I loved it -- the sets are super-stylized, the costumes are gorgeous, the dancing dramatic and the choreography witty and original. My only complaint is the one I have for all full-length ballets: too much acting, not enough dancing. But definitely worth the price of admission for anyone interested in dance, theater or swans.

Dinner with Sara
Interesting things always seem to happen when Sara is around... which is why I've been so sad that she moved to Brooklyn. Luckily, she still visits. Last night we went out to a fun dinner that was notable for two reasons:
1) We sat next to a woman who is a dead ringer for Jennifer Garner.
2) On the way home we passed the new midwife offices on Church Street, and watched a video playing through the window. At first Sara thought it was porn, but it turned out to be a recording of a woman giving birth in water! Our faces were pressed against the window for a full 10 mins. as we watched the last, and presumably most exciting, part. I had never seen anyone actually give birth before and all I can say is, good luck Rebecca! Because, ow.

Who are the people in my neighborhood?
If you believe my Neighborhoodie, given so generously by Rebecca and Kyle, it's Willow, Xander, Spike and Buffy!
