Could this movie really be as good as it sounds?
When her rebellious attitude gets her in trouble with the law, acerbic 17-year-old Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym), a former gymnast, is sentenced to enroll in an elite gymnastics academy run by notorious coach Burt Vickerman (Jeff Bridges), where she butts heads with a competitive rival (Vanessa Lengies). But with an important international meet on the horizon, can the girls put their differences aside to win?
It's like it was made with me in mind! Scary. "Stick It" opens tomorrow, but I have to wait a week (a long week) until Jenny is back from Korea to watch it with me. Check back for a review soon after -- I'm predicting a rave.

I need to spend more time in District 5
I just got back from a demonstration at City Hall promoting a car ban on JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park on Saturdays (as it exists on Sundays). As I was holding a sign and smiling for the cameras, I had a revelation. My fellow attendee, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, is hot!! How come no one ever talks about this? I feel like he must be overshadowed by Mayor Newsom, who is famously easy on the eyes. 10 more cute politicians and we have a calendar, people. Vote accordingly.

Basketball in Oakland: more fun than it sounds!
When Eva invited me to go to the Golden State Warriors game last night, I laughed out loud. Leave SF, esp. for a sporting event? Then I remembered that I am trying to expand my horizons, so I surprised both of us by going. (I surprised only one of us by bringing a book, just in case.)
No book needed! We had a great time. The Warriors were ahead by 20 points most of the game, so we could concentrate on catching up on work gossip, drinking giant beers, and watching all of the great non-game diversions: hip-hop dancing, a magic show, and free-throw contests. More entertaining, and MUCH warmer, than a typical Giants game, though the Giants win on food, bike parking facilities and, of course, location.
Kyle hasn't said anything yet, but I can tell he's mad that I'm wearing my fake glasses today.

Things that delighted me this weekend
7-step DIY facials and "Buffy" mini-marathon at Jenny's (above: step 3, mud masks).
The mussels at Garcon (22nd and Valencia).
The dance-off at the end of "Adam & Steve," now playing at the Castro. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for a good dance-off! This one was really, really good.
Mayor Newsom, described in Sunday's New York Times as "a hottie."

Short takes
Valencia has gone from being one of the best streets to bike on to one of the worst, at least northbound between 19th and 22nd! The upside of all of the crazy construction is that it gives me an excuse to commute down one of my favorite residential blocks in the city -- Lexington Street between 20th and 21st.
In case you were wondering, just adding extra baking powder doesn't make anything better.
What is with shower radios these days? I ordered the simplest digital one I could find, and you still have to enter the date, including year! For when you are in the shower and forget what year it is!!
If you're going to have a song stuck in your head for 2+ days, you could do a lot worse than "I Can Give You the Starlight," from the "Gosford Park" soundtrack.
Remember February, when it was unseasonably dry, wam and sunny for 2 weeks straight? Yeah, me neither.
