The lighter side of peer pressure
Peer pressure has a pretty bad reputation, mostly for its association with underage drinking, drugs and sex. But sometimes it's just the thing to push me in the right direction. Recent examples below.
Crocs. Leah has peer-pressured me and the rest of her friends into buying these ugly shoes. And now I'm glad, because they are incredibly light and comfortable. Did I mention they are ugly? Not so good for a night on the town, but great around the neighborhood, office, campsite, etc.
Expensive, tight, low-rise jeans. Got peer-pressured into buying these by Rebecca, Darlene, Jessica, Jenny and, believe it or not, my mother. They take some getting used to... but I think I'm a convert. Have to buy some longer shirts though.
Lost. I resisted this show for a reasonably long time, but ultimately had no defense against the obsessive recommendations of Kyle and Nicole. Just finished Season 1 and... wow. Don't care so much about the mysteries of the island, but love the relationships and back stories. And really love how adorable the castaways are. Such a good idea -- a plane crash in the middle of nowhere, and only the supermodels survive! Jin in the cutest. No, Sayid. No, definitely Sawyer. Yum.

One of my students wears Crocs. Don't start feeling like one of the cool kids just yet! This kid is no where near cool. He wears shorts everyday, wait for it, with sweater vests. He's like an 85 year old.
Sawyer vs. Jin is a tough one. Sayid seems hot at first, but then you realize he looks like a Muppet. It's all down hill from there. OK, here's a TV conundrum: Sawyer or Logan?

Oh, and Logan? Yeah... hotness, but please. It's aaaallll about Jess. Well, really Jess & Luke. Or Jess & Logan. Luke got mad at Dean a lot, right? So... Luke & Dean. Jess and Logan actually got in a fight, though, so... Jess & Logan. Basically a big four-way where Luke, Dean, Jess and Logan all work out their frustrations in a much more positive way would be great.
Er...we *are* talking about Gilmore Girls, right?
