Gobble gobble
Of all of my family's annual traditions, our Thanksgiving Turkey Trot is my favorite. At least, it's my favorite tradition that starts at 8:30 am. Despite the early hour, we had a large turnout this year of friends, friends' families, and one giant turkey.
One of the Turkey Trot sub-traditions is to declare, at the end, that "this was the best Trot ever." As fun as it was, that sentiment (though said) was hard to be super-enthusiastic about because this was the first year that we did it without co-founders Doug and Nikki. My mom picked up the slack on the beverage service, and Ted did an great job with the race numbers (below), but we all still missed them a lot. Rumors abound of a TT-Portland, but until we see any custom t-shirts, I can't quite believe it really happened.
This year we had the first-ever toddler's trot (aka Gobbler Chase), videoed here. More regular photos here.

Cupcake club: before and after
Jenny and I spent all of last Saturday morning in her kitchen, making two kinds of cupcakes and four flavors of frosting for her party that night. We were both about to pass out by the end, sustained only by all of the flour, butter and sugar we were eating in the process.
One lunch at Universal Cafe, two much-needed showers and many hours later, we reconvened to present the cupcake bar to her nearest and dearest. It was a big hit, if I do say so myself. Long live cupcake club!
Jenny posted some good party pics here.

San Francisco values
Earlier this month, some conservative politicians tried to influence voters into electing a Republican majority in the House of Representatives, so that the "San Francisco values" of then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi would not be inflicted on the rest of the country.
On Saturday night 'Deep decided to have the latest Flashdance at the cable car turnaround at Powell and Market, to show the out-of-towners what San Francisco values really are. Steve, Helen, Gretchen and I learned that San Franciscans really value sparkly clothes, free cake and the new Justin Timberlake album.
'Deep posted a short quicktime video here if you want to see for yourself.

The First Steaksgiving
On Wednesday Hunter, Daniel, James, John and I celebrated Steaksgiving -- my new favorite made-up holiday. In deference to the occasion, we went out-of-neighborhood, all the way over to North Beach's El Raigon. We were thankful (steakful?) for each other's company, the baked provolone appetizer that was so good I think it was really a fried provolone appetizer, and the cow-themed decor. It was good but crazy expensive, so next month we're going back to our usual haunt for Steaksmas (Steakwanzaa if you ask James).

Sexiest Man Alive
People Magazine has named George Clooney the "Sexiest Man Alive" again (the first time was in 1997). While obviously this title is just a marketing gimmick to sell magazines, it makes me kind of mad every year that someone else wins. I mean, Matthew McConaughey (2005)? Eh. Ben Affleck (2002)? (shudder.) Pierce Brosnan (2001)? I really don't think so. Johnny Depp (2003)? Well, sure -- maybe as a 1st Runner Up, in case George Clooney cannot perform his Sexiest Man Alive duties for some reason. Other than that, let's close the contest.

There's no business like show business
And there's really no karaoke like live band karaoke, which David G. and I did at El Rio Saturday night. Being the lead singer of a rocking band makes crooning in front of a TV monitor pale in comparison. Judith took videos -- anyone who is feeling particularly curious, bored or masochistic may e-mail me for the link.

Lemon Watch
In an effort to stop mooching so many lemons from Harold & Jenny, and Brett & Rebecca, and Neil & Chris, and Rick & Michelle, I bought my very own tree 4 years ago. After a couple of false starts, my heart breaking a little each time, it looks like the current crop is actually going to pan out. They are almost as big as lemons should be, but much less yellow. I'll be keeping a close watch on these babies all winter and if things work out, the lemonade, lemon bars, and lemon drops are on me!

Tuesdays with Isabel
Starting pretty recently, but hopefully continuing for a long time, every Tuesday Isabel and I go out for breakfast at Boogaloo's. She draws pictures until the food comes, and then I try to get her to eat something besides bacon. After breakfast we dance, then take funny videos. It's awesome.
P.S. Apparently the ELO song "Medieval Woman" is really just "Evil Woman." Who knew? Besides Kyle, who is still laughing at me.
P.P.S. ¡Ya Voté!

Trick or treat
Nothing is scarier to my darling niece than a human dressed like an animal, so she was pretty confused when no one was frightened by her Winnie the Pooh costume this year. Not even the littlest kids! At least her jack-o-lantern design was an unqualified success.
